A New Home for SHA at The Architects Studio

News

Back in 2004 I wasn’t planning to start up another architectural practice. I certainly wasn’t planning to have my office in a petitioned off corner of my bedroom either. Life can be unpredictable and both things came to pass.

Since then I’ve run the practice out of a transformed children’s play room and most recently from a 70’s house in Subiaco.

You can imagine then, what it feels like to buy a small building, renovate it and finally move in with fellow architect Neil Cownie. Our new place named appropriately The Architects Studio started out an ugly duckling but now is in fine feather. It’s modern, light, bright and highly functional in a brilliant location. I just love it.

My son is particularly thrilled because our new office is near his university and he thinks it’s pretty cool. He remembers fondly my practice’s humble beginnings. I was quite moved the other day when he said, “You know Mum, your Dad would be so proud of you.” Yes I think he’s right, this milestone would mean a lot to him. This is especially true as it is coming just after the success we’ve had with our project Bedfordale House.

Neil and I and SHA’s small team of architects and designers had a dream team working on our new place. Many thanks to all our wonderful suppliers, your support has been greatly appreciated.

In particular:

Owen Hickey from Hickey Constructions was our coordinating builder – 0417 484 152
owen@hickeyconstructions.com.au

Ian Petersen from Westec Doors & Windows supplied and installed new the aluminium door and window frames and louvres

Nick Page from Creative Page – did a great job with the signage

David Abbott from Abbott’solutely Timber fabricated our stunning timber glazed front door

Reg Campbell from Halo Lighting (now Sii LIGHT) supplied many of our new lights

Zenith Interiors sorted us out with our office furniture and Stylecraft supplied some beautiful chairs

Alan Parker from Austim supplied us with timber for the feature external cladding

Fremantle Stone did our very cool new pavers

Terry and Craig from Era Communications – patiently sorted out all our IT.

The Architects Studio brings together a collaborative team who are a joy to work with. Come and visit us in Leura Street in Nedlands. We’d love to show you around.
